Winterize Your Nails: The Julep Guide (Plus Mine)

I've been busy, I've been lazy, I've been keeping my nails plain for weeks. If you are my friend, you will know that is not me at all. Nonetheless, I've been ignoring nail care for awhile and that is not acceptable. Especially when I just starting to work and the number of people I have to shake hands with is a ton. Thankfully no one cares. I guess I mostly deal with people in the food industry, so having non-painted nails is not a big deal to them. I would not have paid much attention until I saw an email by a representative of Julep. She brought me back to a time where I was still free to sit down and do whatever I want. I miss that and so I am going to balance my life between beauty, nail art and working adult stuff. The first will be caring for your nails and hands. Julep call it winterize, I call it Monsoonize?! Okay, ignore that. Singapore doesn't have winter, we only have sun or rain. Surprisingly, the weather had been cold these past few weeks though, so I g...

Best of '14: Luxury - Beauty Elixir

Some say it is magic in a bottle, some say it is overly raved, some say I want to try it, some say it is way too overprice. Well, I am the first of those some. I really do believe it is magic. I mean sure I may get brainwash by the price tag and the scent, but there is just something about it. For a small bottle, this cost almost S$20. That is really something, but when you are in Paris, you just have to buy it. Cause I want to. I get the mini one as it is cuter plus I do want to bring it around with me. First of all, the scent is just so refreshing. It is indeed a luxurious scent. I am not sure if it is cause I link it with the price, or if it already smells so expensive. Should do a test with someone who doesn't know about this. Secondly, facial mist is the best! It is just a great product to refresh you, to moisturise your face, to lift you up. You just feel so awake and good to go. Love it. Such a cooling sensation too. I know I know water works as well. Third, this is where th...

Best of '14: Tools - Mr Bunny

EcoTools and Real Techniques brushes are definitely on my top of best brushes ever. In fact all the random brand brushes that I am using are some that I love. You can say that I have a lot of brushes, that will be an understatement, but I also know that there are a lot out there that I've yet to try. So for this year, the recognition will have to go to Sigma's Mr Bunny Essential Brush Kit because it is the most expensive set I have at the moment. Pictured is the comparison between the full set and travel set. I bought the travel set last year. Sorry for the glaring pic. Anyway the set is much bigger and it actually comes in an oval case as compare to the round container of the travel kit. It is also much taller. Honestly I prefer the travel kit. The round container is so much easier to put in the brushes. Plus most of my brushes are not so long, that they fit and blend with the travel kit better. For now, the oval case will hide some of my brushes will barely peep through. So ...

Best of '14: The Body Shop - Atlas Mountain Rose

There are many brands out there that has wonderful smelling product, but nothing compare to the TBS. I love Lush too, but it's more of the overall scent that I like instead of the individual product. So, today best of '14 will be dedicated to the TBS. It is just so hard to go into TBS and just choose one thing. I will always stand there and decide if I want strawberry or passion fruit, then I will be but grapefruit is so yummy, oh new scent! Dilemma! But for this year, I will have to award it to the Atlas Mountain Rose. I got this for my birthday last year. Not a fan of roses, which is why I would never pick this out for myself. This one is awesome though. Surprisingly I reached out for the body spray so much more than my perfumes. The rose scent is not overpowering, which is nice. It is subtle and feminine, fresh and florally, a really clean refreshing scent. The scent of sweet rose will linger in the background. It is just the perfect thing to spray on in the morning to wake ...

Best of '14: Perfume - Narciso Rodriguez

I have been using this perfume for about 2 years now. Cause my cousins are using them too, so they always give me the 2ml samples. I finally got one bottle for Christmas last year, and I have been using this a lot especially night time. I don't know why, but I guess cause this is the EDP, so the scent is much stronger, that's why I prefer to spray this for evening outings. Even so, I still have a lot left. Musk remains at the heart of for her eau de parfum, enhanced by a rare weave of pink floral with hints of rose, peach pulp and soft amber. It is overall a very feminine sexy scent. I don't know how else I can put it. As I said I always use this whenever going out for dinner, so I really associate this with something much more classier. It is a just one perfume that I feel wont go out of style. Personally I love D&G Light Blue more, but that is more of a casual wear. While this is more a bit higher end. So ya, does that make sense?

Best of '14: Hair - Clarifying Shampoo

I've been looking for clarifying shampoo all over Singapore. Especially the ones recommended to me by you guys in the comments, but whenever I go Robinsons or somewhere that particular shampoo will be sold out. So when I saw this at iHerb , I was overjoyed. This is the Alba Botanica Clarifying Shampoo. It is for oily, overactive, natural or color treated hair. I used this like maybe once a week, or on days when I used too much hair product (hair spray, dry shampoo, etc). It can weeks that I don't touch this at all. So this lasted forever in my shower. It doesn't dry out my hair totally but I can feel really clean. It works fine like any other shampoo I used. I can even use this for 2 days straight. However if 3 days continuously I use this, I can feel feel my hair getting greasy super fast. So it really is just a shampoo to be used once a week to remove build up. So yes for clarifying shampoo, but I'll probably be finding a better one.

Best of '14: Brow - 3CE Eyebrow Mascara

This year I experienced with a lot of brow product. Cause this year I started to find better brows product. My brows are crazy. It's uneven which I know is normal, so it's alright I guess. I always wanted to try the Benefit GiveMeBrow, but I'm not sure how well it will work for me. Then I saw 3CE having this. It's the perfect time to try the product and the brand. And I love it. It's a brow brush applicator product like a mini mascara. It has a gel that's suppose to keep the brow in place. It's tinted so it help with covering the bald spot. It's just easy to use and helps to keep brows in place. The color also suits me quite alright. I think that the problem with this is the color as not everyone have the same color brow. The applicator brush has different lengths on each side. Not sure if can see clearly from the picture but it's all there. So it's good to grab on the tiny hair on the brows. But I think what I really like bout it is that it is f...

Best of '14: Lipstick - Rouge Allure Velvet in La Fascinante

I have another red for Chanel. I especially love their rouge allure lipstick packaging, but this is the matte formula. An oldie but a goodie, and I can't believe this is not reviewed a long time ago. I don't know if you can see the gloss on the swatch, but it does have a little shine, which is not suppose to. It is also not 100% pigmented, but you can build it up until it becomes a really rich berry red. It's so pretty. I love it. Among all the red lipsticks, I feel that this one is the one that compliment me the most. I guess cause it is not that red, more of a berry on my pigmented lip. Actually it is just a true blue based red. I also love the way it applies - so smooth. I guess if have to compare between the rouge allure and rouge allure velvet, I prefer the velvet. The formula and texture is much nicer. It doesn't feel drying so that is good. But with most red lipstick, you have to use a liner, so that is the only problem I found with wearing bold colors. Then agai...

Best of '14: Lip Balm - Smith's Rosebud Salve

Hi I'm FY and I'm a lip balm addict. I've tried a lot of lip balm and I am still trying and will be trying more. This year though, I pretty much been using Smith's Rose nightly. To be perfectly honest, I prefer Shill's Rosebud Balm. I think the texture is much nice and it is just more effective. But as this "choice" is for the year 2014, it deserves to go to one that I'd used the most. I enjoyed using them both but ya you know. A lot of people swear by this, and I can see why. Texture is like petroleum jelly, but I guess it is actually helpful in the long run. As I heard petroleum jelly only help to cure dryness for the moment but will get worse later on. This one is nice on the lips. I like that it can be applied on dry hands too. I also like that I still can feel a bit of balm left when I wake up. It does leave your lips feel smooth, it does help chapped lips. But I feel that if your lips are very cracked, very flakey, it doesn't help as much. It...

Best of '14: Mascara - Macrolash

If you have been reading this my blog, thank you by the way, then you will know that one of my favourite mascara is the Canmake gokunobi mascara . It is just a natural mascara. Still not the best, but good enough. This year I found Macrolash; good enough, plus I enjoy using it the most this year. Macrolash is meant to create dramatic false lash affect. With the duo  mascara that you are suppose to use one after another. One tube is the normal mascara, and the other is the micro fiber. You pretty much have to apply 3 coats. First you have to coat your lashes with the mascara, then apply the fibers, lastly sealed it all up with another coat of the mascara. Personally I do not like the 3 steps, as I really don't see any difference in doing that. I just felt that the fibers kept falling off or it didn't stick in the first place. But what I do love about this, is the mascara itself. It is just natural. Ok, don't say love, like is more appropriate. The mascara is a normal one. Th...

Best of '14: Cheeks - ELF Conturing Blush & Bronzing Powder

For cheeks, this year I've been using the ELF duo a lot. Ever since I got it, it is the blush that I kept reaching out most of the time. Part of it is that I put this in my daily makeup bag, so that is why. Why it is in my makeup bag is cause it has a bronzer in it too. Plus the mirror really helps. I don't use my makeup in front of my dressing table. I usually sit on the bed with a hand mirror nearby. My dressing table is beside my bed, so I will pop my head to look in the mirror on occasion. And so I put the makeup I use daily in a makeup bag that I can just haul over onto my bed. So I really like this cause it is two product in one. Convenient for me and maximize my bag space. People say it's a dupe for the NARS Orgasms blush, but I really don't think so. I am no expert as I don't have the NARS blush but the blush here is much more lighter. There isn't much pigment which is good and bad. Good in that you don't have to be careful and use a light hand. You ...

Best of '14: Face - Maxfactor 3in1 Foundation

This is a tough one. I like a lot of foundations, bb and cc creams. But ultimately I had decided that I like this one more. Its 3in1 claim do live up to its name. It'l does prime and conceal too. Why I say that is because it is long lasting and a really full coverage foundation. I guess medium to full is more accurate but it does help concealing and you don't have to use anymore concealer. It just helps to even out skin tone. This shade is too light at first. But it oxidize on you so it becomes the perfect shade. I didn't know what shade I am when I asked my friend to buy this for me. So it just work out well in the end. But ya, it's a really good foundation.

Best of '14: Eyeshadow - Chocolate Bar

The one eyeshadow I feel deserve a big shout out is this Chocolate Bar palette. I am just so in love with it. Not only it is the palette I used the most, it is also the one thing I buy without waiting for a sale. Usually when I shop, I buy things on impulse. If not, it will be a sale that drives me to purchase the stuff. So this is not an impulse purchase, that's why I treasured it so much. I do wish the palette is a bit thinner, but that is my only complain about it. Just look at the design - a chocolate bar - you'll love it already. Next, the scent. Mama Mia, it smells like chocolate. Well like cocoa powder, but it smells so yummy. The colors are neutral with a couple shades for a pop of color. There are a blend of matte and shimmer. Pigmentation is good. Shadows smooth to the touch, easy to blend and overall a good quality product. I bought this for $69 at Sephora. I like the outer packaging, which is the only cardboard box I kept ever. It also comes with 3 how-to which is n...

Best of '14: Mask - Avocado and Mango Hydrating Facial Mask

It just so happen that avocado is my favorite fruit and mango is my second. I just had to right. This smells so good that its really fun to put on. This year is not a good skin year, I used so much pimple cream, that my skin became so dry. So moisturizing is really important for me. I tried a lot of masks, but I really had to give it to MT just for fact that I love the mask without even using it. But I mean really, it is a good mask. A hydrating facial mask that restores skin's youthful appearance. It is really hydrating. And it is not a thick mask. Just apply and wait for 10-15 minutes before rinsing off. I can't remember how much I bought this for but it is not crazy expensive. It's just a bit hard to get hold off in Singapore.

Best of '14: Skincare - Biotherm PureFect Skin Trio

A travel size skincare set for combination to oily skin. Anti-shine Purifying Cleansing Gel is a light watery gel like texture. It's super gentle and cleanse well. It smells really nice too. Micro-exfoliating Purifying Toner is a typical toner. I don't really finds anything special with toner, as most of them are the same I feel. This evaporates off your face quite quickly. So it is quite nice to use as you don't have to wait for long do rather next step. Pure Skin Effect Hydrating Gel is a light weight gel texture moisturizer. I really like that it is gel and it sinks into the skin fast. Everything is 5ml except the toner which is 20ml. But for once, I used this up quite quickly. Usually 5ml can last me for 8 uses, these though just 4 times. The toner I can use longer. So overall it is a good combination of skincare that I really enjoy using this year. It does what it claimed to be and I do recommend it for anyone with combi to oily skins. Honorable mention: Sulwhasoo T...

Elf Matte Lip Color in Natural

From the picture, it looks so mauve and wash out. In reality, it highlights my crack lips but it's a pretty neutral shade. I like the idea of the ELF lip color that is smaller than a regular lip pen but bigger than the typical lip liner. Its size is just right to color in your lips. But as a matte lip color, it is quite drying. It emphasize on the dryness and cracks. It is also not so mattifying. The reviews out there is mixed. Some love it, some hate it. I guess it really depend on your lips. If you tend to have dryer lips, you'll probably hate it as it is not a moisturizing lip product.
